The Three Worlds

In Part 2 of The Occult Anatomy of Man, the focus shifts from general symbolism to a precise esoteric map of the Three Worlds and their correspondence within the human body. Drawing on the teachings of Manly P. Hall, this lecture reveals how heaven, earth, and hell are not distant cosmic locations, but states of consciousness and centers of power within man himself.

This is a continuation of the ancient doctrine that man is the living bridge between worlds.

The Three Worlds in Esoteric Symbolism

Across mythologies and religions, existence is divided into three realms:

  • Heaven above
  • Earth in the middle
  • Hell below

Esoterically, this structure is anatomical. The skull and brain represent heaven, the torso and heart represent the middle world, and the lower body and generative system represent the underworld. These are not moral judgments, but functional zones through which life force and consciousness circulate.

The human body becomes the cosmic axis.

The Skull as the Temple of the Gods

In ancient symbolism, the domed temple atop the sacred mountain represents the skull. This is the dwelling place of the gods within man. The brain is the heaven world, situated at the northern end of the spinal column, just as sacred geography places the divine realm to the north or above.

The spinal column itself is Jacob’s Ladder, the Rainbow Bridge, the path by which gods descend and ascend. Its thirty three segments correspond to the degrees of initiation and to the years traditionally attributed to the life of Christ.

The Brain, the Upper Room, and the Holy of Holies

Within the brain are chambers, caverns, and ventricles that ancient traditions described as sacred spaces. The third ventricle stands at the center, symbolized as the Holy of Holies, the Mercy Seat, and the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid.

Around it sit three great centers of power:

  • The pituitary body
  • The pineal gland
  • The optic thalamus

These are the “three kings” enthroned within the vaulted chamber of the brain. Esoteric tradition teaches that this chamber is the seat of the soul, and that the golden aura seen around saints and sages emanates from this center.

The Pineal Gland and the Third Eye

The pineal gland, shaped like a pine cone, has been revered across cultures. It appears in Egyptian iconography, Hindu and Buddhist symbolism, and Christian mysticism as the Eye Single or Third Eye.

Manly P. Hall explains that this gland was once an active organ of spiritual perception. As material senses developed, it receded into the brain. Children, who still partially recapitulate earlier stages of human evolution, often display heightened sensitivity because this center remains more active in early life.

The pineal gland is described as the Tail of the Dragon of Wisdom, destined to awaken again as the bridge between the human and the divine.

The Pituitary Body and the Dragon’s Head

Opposite the pineal gland lies the pituitary body, seated in the sphenoid bone behind the bridge of the nose. It is described as the Head of the Dragon, the feminine pole of a vast electrical circuit that uses the entire body as its field.

Ancient symbolism associates this center with the Holy Grail, the Virgin Mary, Isis, and the lunar crescent. It governs physical expression, growth, and balance, and was considered by the ancients to be one of the most sacred centers in the body.

The Frontal Sinus and the Seat of Individuality

Between the eyes, above the root of the nose, lies the frontal sinus. Esoteric traditions identify this as the seat of individuality. It is here that jewels are placed on the foreheads of Buddhas and where the uraeus serpent rises from the crowns of Egyptian initiates.

This point is said to be the dwelling place of divine consciousness within man, concealed behind a veil that cannot be analyzed by ordinary perception.

The Cross, the Temple, and the Human Form

The cross is not merely a religious emblem. It is the human body itself, with the head rising above the outstretched arms. Cathedrals, churches, and Masonic temples were built in this form, with the altar placed where the brain would be.

Candles upon the altar symbolize awakened sense centers in the head. Rose windows suggest the soft place at the crown of the skull. The sanctum sanctorum is the upper room of consciousness, accessible only through purification and inner discipline.

Man as an Inverted Plant

One of the most striking metaphors in this lecture is the idea of man as an inverted plant. Plants draw nourishment upward from the earth. Man draws nourishment downward from the spiritual sun.

Life descends from the brain into the body, animating form. In advanced stages of evolution, this process is reversed, and the body is gradually re absorbed into the brain, leaving behind seven perfected centers of consciousness. These are the seven spirits before the throne and the saviors that redeem the worlds through the stages of growth.

Why This Teaching Matters

This vision of occult anatomy restores coherence to ancient myths, religious symbols, and spiritual narratives. Heaven, earth, and hell are revealed not as distant places, but as experiences unfolding within consciousness.

To study the human body symbolically is to rediscover the original spiritual science that once united anatomy, cosmology, and enlightenment.
